Our goal is that, every person who visits our website will have a rewarding online experience. We are also dedicated to safeguarding any personal information we collect online and strive to protect an individual's privacy when he or she uses our website.
Because many of the visitors to our website are children under the age of thirteen, we take special care that our content is suitable for young children and that we comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). For more information about COPPA or children's privacy online, please visit www.ftc.gov/kidzprivacy. While we take special care to help children protect their privacy online, we strongly encourage parents to participate in their children's online activities and monitor their children's electronic communications.
Your privacy is very important to us. This privacy statement explains our data collection, use and safeguard practices concerning the personal information you provide us on our website. Because we continue to offer new content and services on a regular basis, we may need to modify our privacy policies from time to time. However, we will treat all personal information collected on this website as confidential and in accordance with the policies in effect at that time. By using this site, you consent to the data collection practices described in this statement.
SUBMISSIONS
We collect and maintain two types of information that is used to service our visitors and customers "personal information" and "personally identifiable information." "Personal information" is information that is personal to someone but does not identify who they are. For instance, first name, age, computer operating systems, preferences, etc. are all personal information because they cannot identify a person. On the other hand, "personally identifiable information" is information that identifies a person such as his or her full name, address and e-mail address.
WHAT INFORMATION WE COLLECT & HOW WE USE IT
MAF collects and maintains user information which is reasonably related to servicing our customer accounts.
1. User information collected from 12 years and under
When a user register's his (or her) online MAF account, he is asked to provide his first name, age, and gender. Also, the user is asked to create a password. The limited information provided is not personally identifiable because it cannot be used to contact or identify the user offline.
The only personally identifiable information we collect from users 12 years old and under, is a parent's (or guardian) valid email address. We use this information to send users a one-time message which will activate their MAF account.
For some of our online activities such as polls or surveys we may ask users to provide additional information to give us feedback. These polls and surveys will never ask for information that is personally identifiable to our users. We may ask for personal information, however, such as country of residence or a preference, such as a user's favorite color.
2. User information collected from 13 years and older
Users 13 years and older are required to enter either their own email address or their parent's (or guardian's) email address in order to activate their account.
(Note: we collect and store the user's parent's email address, first name, age, and gender. We also store information regarding the user's gaming experience: points, clothing, etcetera.)
3. General use of information collected
Additionally, when users visit our site, we automatically collect some non-personally identifiable "computer" information that is used to make our website more user-friendly and more interesting. For instance, we collect such information as (1) the type of computer operating system being used (e.g., Windows XP or Mac OS), (2) the user's "IP Address", (3) the web browser being used (e.g., Netscape, Internet Explorer) and (4) certain information regarding the user's internet service provider.
Once a user has logged onto the website, we use server interactions and database transactions to track traffic patterns and user activities. This non-personally identifiable information helps us make design and content improvements to our web site. Also, this information will help us understand which areas of our website are most appealing or those areas that need more improvement, all to make our visitor's experience more entertaining, challenging and fun.
We may also use the information we collect to personalize a user's experience and to offer supportive products, programs and services.
4. Email Communication from a User
If a user contacts us by e-mail, we use his or her e-mail address to respond specifically to the request or question. Once the request is completed, the address is deleted from our files. When a young user provides his parent's e-mail address to us, we keep that information and use it only for the purposes of (1) requesting and receiving parental consent (as required by COPPA) and (2) sending notices to parents.
5. Email Communications from Us
Users may sign up to receive newsletters, birthday e-cards and special e-mail messages and offers. As we continue to improve and update our website, we'll send out the newsletters and e-mails to provide users with information about new website features and improvements. We'll inform users on when their registration will expire, new releases of My Animal Family books, or other special promotional messages or offers. In addition, users have the option of signing up for a service where we send out e-mails on the user's birthday at the appropriate time.
To participate in these activities, a user will provide the following: (1) user's first name, and (2) user's e-mail address OR user's parent's e-mail address. This information will be used to contact the parent by e-mail to notify him or her that the user has provided personally identifiable information to us for the above purposes. With this notice, parents are given the opportunity to opt-out of the programs and the collection of the information.
6. Information collected from Users who purchase a membership
MAF offers a monthly membership program for users who want to play more challenging games and activities. If a user decides to purchase a membership, additional financial information will be required at the time of the purchase. This information is provided directly to the financial institution that processes our orders but is not stored by us. The financial institution uses and stores the information for the purpose of processing payments made to us. It is used for no other purpose and, at all times, is safeguarded with extremely high, bank-level security.
7. User Information from Members Who Use our online store
Finally, we collect personal and financial information from customers who shop in our online store. In order to purchase products from our online store, we require customers to fill in an online order form found on our website. We require customers to provide us with their name, street address, phone number, email address, credit card numbers and other personal preferences. We use this information to process their orders, provide services, and inform them of new product releases.
As stated above, we respect our customer's personal privacy and we will never use their confidential customer information for any purpose other than processing payments or fulfilling merchandise orders. The personal and financial information that customers enter on our website will enable them to make a purchase from the online store. Our financial institution will use this information only for the purpose of processing credit card payments made to us. Financial information gathered on our website is safeguarded with extremely high, bank-level security and all credit card processing is done using completely secure, above industry standard encryption to secure and encrypt all credit card transactions.

NOTE TO PARENTS
The internet offers a world of exploration, discovery and opportunity for children. However there has been much publicity given to questionable sites and materials found on the internet. It is essential, therefore, that parents get involved and give guidance to their children's activity on the internet to insure that children have a safe and rewarding online experience. We encourage parents to visit the FreesafetyDVDs4U website and order the free DVD entitled "Internet Safety for Kids." Your efforts to monitor and instill responsible practices in your children will go a long way toward insuring that they are safe on the internet.
